Hey everybody I am new here so let me give you a quick back ground, I bought my first harley in March '08 (2004 xl1200R) the bike only had 2100 miles on it. (got a good deal from dealer IMO.) And now the bikes has right at 10k miles on it. So my question is should this rubber mount vibrate so bad between 2200rpm and 2900rpm in any gear? The bike does have stage 1 with vance and hines dragpipe slip-ons with homemade anti reversion cones (washers with bolt welded on) and no baffles. I have checked the engine mounts and all seem to be tight. This is I.M.O. a engine related vibration. So anybody with any suggestions of what to check would be greatly appreciated!! P.S. Look forward to hanging out here at the forum!!
thanks josephgarcia but how would I know if the mount itself is bad? Any checks I could do? Like I said I did put a wrench on them And they were all tight. And yes ratrod hog I have heard that these 1200's like 3k rpm and higher but the vibration is real bad at low RPM's and only smooths out slightly over 3krpms, but the bike runs super strong.
that could be true, but he said any gear, i assumed that included 1st gear.
and what bike is still lugging at 2900 rpm in the first gear? Or sencond and third. the lugging rpm of my ride is 1500. after that i can cruise and accelerate slowly and smoothly, under that it is rough and vibrates bad espeecially in the higher gears
Welcome from Michigan.
Be sure the large front mount down by the foot pegs is tight. I had a 2000 1200 solid mount and that had a lot of vibration at high RPM I didn't think it was to bad at low RPM. Now I have a 06 1200 and at high RPM it has a lot less vibration, at low RPM I think it has a bit more then my solid mount did. Rubber mounts dont like low RPM.
Best of luck to you...
thanks gphdxlc, but that was the first bolt I checked. Is it possible for an intake leak or mis tuned carb or timing to cause this vibration? Maybe it is my belt, but I checked the tension and the tension seemed right. I don't know maybe it is in my head but I swear for the first 5000 miles the bike seemed fairly smooth.
OK maybe mis-tuned carb
if this thing is running rough at a slow to the rpm you say
it might be pet-**** valve is bad (Vacume hose) sucking to much fuel to carb.
you will need a vac tester for this job
man my brain is going fast ****.
simple test is to pull little hose at valve and see if it has gas in it? and still should have a vac tester to be sure
