I cheated on my Nightster, and now she's getting back at me.
I love my Nightster, but I like the Road Kings more and more each time I look at them. I went to my dealer on Saturday and they let me test ride a Police edition. The seat is a little too high for me on that one, but it's supposed to be 4" higher than the standard. It was very comfortable on the highway. Overall, it was a very different experience than my Nightster. It was heavy and slow, but I did like it.
I decided I will definitely hold off on buying the RK because it would not be comfortable financially to have both right now, and I can't bring myself to sell the Nightster. I like that bike too much to get rid of her.
Well, she must have smelled the big twin on me when I got home. When I tried to start her yesterday, I heard a few clicks and then nothing. Battery was completely drained! I own a float charger, I just haven't used it on this bike. So, I decided to connect the charging harness to the battery, and I will start plugging it in at night. The positive bolt came right out of the post no problem, but the bolt on the negative terminal broke in half! All I did was turn the wrench and the head of the bolt looks like it sheered right off.
I tried grabbing the bolt with some tools, but it's stuck in there. I need to get a replacement bolt anyway, so I'll see if the dealer will extract for me.
Glad my Sporty isn't jealous like yours. I have ridden several big twins since buying my bike and have had no problems yet.
I rented an RK for the day and rode it for 300 miles and was not at all unhappy with giving it back to the dealer. Now the Heritage, that is another story. Loved that bike and did not want to give that one back.
I really love my sporty. It has plenty of power, smooth and loads of fun. I've been told that if I ride a big twin shee'll never seem the same. For me ignorance is bliss.
Dealer told me the battery must have arced and welded the bolt to the terminal. They couldn't get it out either, so warranty gave me a new battery.
Actually, I don't see myself trading in for a RK anytime soon now that I had a chance to ride one. It really is a very different ride, and I don't want to go that direction yet.
