I was looking around for a new bike and I decided to rent a Harley 883 Sportster. My girlfriend and I went to the dealer and picked up the bike for the weekend. We went to the beach, riding around town... everything basically. We put on about 400 miles that weekend.
My impressions.
The 883 is very, very slow. My buddy has a 750cc Honda Shadow and I couldn't keep up with him at all! We raced from a dead stop and he whooped me! I was extremely surprised because the sportsters are supposed to be fast... are they not?? I was just very confused.
Is the sportster supposed to be slow??? How can a 883cc sportster be slower than a 750cc Honda Classic???
The Honda is much lighter for one thing. The other is that the Sportster you rented was stock. To really get the bike to run, it needs more open pipes and air intake. This will also require an adjustment to the fuel delivery system.

THE HONDA WAS STOCK!!!! Why is the Stock 883 slower than a Stock Honda 750 cruiser??
You can call it whatever you want... but I'm interested in getting a bike and I wanted to come here and see if that is normal for a 883 to be slow or if it was just the one I was riding.
