Default solo seat

What happens when you take a stock 883 solo seat for a 3.3 gallon tank and try to mount it on a 4.5gallon tank bike? I see lots of solo seats on ebay but they are mostly all for the smaller tanks. I know they are different part numbers but can they still be mounted on the bigger tank models? Is it just a gap difference? BTW I realize I will need the new style ('07+) seat...

I just like the way the solo looks and don't do a whole lot of two up riding. I don't want to spend big money on an aftermarket seat. Anyone got one they want to get rid of?

Theres a difference. On the smaller tank's seat the distance from the lip to the docking point is shorter by like 2 inchs from the 4.5 gallon. You may be able to mod it. but im not sure if it would work.

I'm sending a fellow member the stock seat for my 2004 1200R model to replace the solo seat on his wife's 883. As mentioned before, the solo seat on the bike with the peanut tank is roughly 2 inches too long at the tongue. The seat material can be pulled back. trimmed the appropriate amount and then re-stapled to fit or you can buy a used stock seat on e-Bay for like $100.
