Default Toolkit question

I'm looking to do some off-season work on my 2008 Sporty, but I want to make sure I've got all the tools I'll need handy. I have a bunch of socket wrenches, allen wrenches, torx wrenches, and screwdrivers and other sundry stuff.

What other must-haves, without going nuts and overspending? I am thinking perhaps a torque wrench? Any advice appreciated.

Not knowing exactly what you have you should just about be good. Maybe a torque wrench. Some pliers are a must. A chisel for when you strip one of those aluminum screws. I think the rear axle nut is a 15/16 which a lot of people don't have, I know I didn't. Best thing you can buy is a jack, really makes life easy or so I hear. I just use a bunch of old books because my cheap *** can't afford it.

If you plan on wrenching on you own stuff, there is no such thing as enough. Been doing my own and other peoples for near on 40 years and the more I do the more I find I don't have the right tool. Case in point, bought a set of auxillary lites for my FXDL. To install you need to remove the gas tank to route the wires. To drain the tank you need a vacuum pump, bought one, did the work and put the pump in the tool box I removed the tank on my sport once, with gas in it. On the FXDL there is no way. Buy a good mechanics set, (I have alot of craftsman) and plan on adding to it. If you work on you own you will

What better excuse to run out and get more tools? Sounds like you got most things covered, i would suggest a pair of torque wrenches in the 1/4" and 3/8" sizes, but like vet767 has said, you never have all the tools you need. You'll always find something that you need a tool for.

Service Manual and Parts Manual are a must. Also the torque wrench, both foot pounds and surprisingly, INCH POUNDS. And a jack IS a great help, just be sure to tie the Sporty down, mate.
