Hi, i'm asking this for a buddy that has a 2005 XL 1200C. He want's to put on some slipons, will he have to rejet after doing this? If he does, is this easy to do or should a pro do it?
Thanks.
The only real way to know whether rejetting will be required is to do the swap, fire it up, ride the bike, and see how it runs/read the plugs. If the slip-ons are significantly less restrictive, then rejetting will be required.
Typically if only the slip ons are added then no, a jet change will not likely be required. Now, if you do the slip ons and add a high flow air cleaner then yes, it is very likely you will need to rejet.
No need to re-jet if he is just doing slip on mufflers. I did that first. Rode the bike for 3,000 miles with NO problems. Once I changed the air cleaner, then I had to re-jet. And that really wasn't a big problem.
But there is no need for that, just for new pipes!!!!!
If he wants to do the air cleaner these articles will get anybody through the process:
