Default Need advice 1200 N vs the 883 Iron

I read the Iron posts. Just looking for some pro's and con's of the two.

I am looking to by my wife a bike and as I have a Night Train and she thinks its to large (and I wont spend that much on her any way ), she liked the size, and feel of the 1200N and the seat hight was good for her. She wants to ride with me, and I think the Dark Custom look would match well (and if she decides not to ride it goes to me). Then low and behold out comes the 883 Iron.

The Iron seem's to have the looks and price. Any reason to take one over the other?

Are the Sporsters are now FI and not carbed...

Thanks.

If the Iron was a 1200 and I could do it over again, I would go with the Iron. But I will stick with my 1200 Nightster and just black out the engine like the Iron. And yes all Sportsters are FI now.

I'd go with the original "N" myself... But if you are paying cash and the 2g is significant... the 883 version is a good option

Honestly, I wonder if she will notice the power difference between the 1200 and the 883. They both will do 100+ with her on it. It's all a preference. The nightster still keeps a different look to it. The way the seat and bars are set up gives it more of a bobber look, while the 883N looks more like a classic sporty blacked out. For whatever reason I'm kind of a sucker for the 883s. Something about them!

I have to say that I Love the Iron, but it is an 883. The only downfall. If she does not need alot of power and does not ride 2 up, then go for the Iron! I wish they made it in 1200 when I bought my N.

I'd go with the 883 Iron. You can always do a 1200 conversion if she wants more power later.

I would go with the 1200 but that's me. I have an 883 and my brother has a Nightster. The power difference is HUGE. If she doesn't care about power then the 883 is fine. You have to factor all the things that come with the extra 2 grand you spend on the 1200. Gearing is different, much better heads, bigger pistons better cams and ignition.

Speed/Power should not be a major issue for her. The 1200 seem's like it might be too fast for her, and I dont want her taking off on me with my Train.

Is reliablity between the 883 and 1200 on par as well as interchange of most after market parts?

I have never had a problem with aftermarket parts. I mean unless you try to change out engine specific parts of course. If power is no big deal then I don't see why you would spend the extra 2 grand. Get the 883.
