What do you guys think? Do you think it's possible that HD will make a 1200 version of the Iron in the future? I've heard so much talk about decisions between the Iron and Nightster and alot have come down to liking looks of the Iron better but wanted the 1200 and weighing the pros and cons. Personally I'm buying a Nightster but if the Iron came with the 1200 stock I'd give it a hard look.
Yeah I'm not sold on the iron,if your gonna black it out black the damn thing out already. You still gotta put pipes on it and shocks and numerous other stuff, personally I'd rather get the nightster.
prolly just a matter of time before the nightster comes with the black motor....untill then i'd do the iron and pick up the 1250cc kit from dan @ nrhs and still have money left over to get pipes and such, you'll be a few bucks below a nightster, cheaper insurance and a sleeper cause peeps will think it's a 883 ...many threads already on this.
It's my understanding that you will not be able to "bore out" the irons cylinders like we used to be able to do with the 08 and older 883's. Certainly Dan could help you but at present as stated previously, you would have to go with the 1250 kit, not the 1212 kit. Or to be honest you could buy the parts from HD themselves. That is why I don't think they will make a 1200 Iron. They'll just want to sell you their parts for the conversion. Kinda like the HD tax.

Good call on the HD tax. If I had to guess I'd say the Nightster gets the black motor but keeps the laced rims
Yeah, Harley went 'cheap' on the new 883 engines (or maybe did it on purpose), but they changed the cylinder sleeves to the point they can no longer be bored out for a 1200 conversion...
I would imagine this was done on purpose so people would now be required to purchase new cylinders if they want to make it a 1200. You could resleeve the 883 cylinders, but the end cost would probably be more than purchasing new 1200 cylinders.
No doubt Harley will put a premium price on 'blacked out 1200 cylinders', but there is hope as some companies are already making 883 to 1200 conversion kits that include the blacked out cylinders. Can't remember the information off hand, but some of this information was posted in an earlier thread.
yeah, I don't understand why the Iron does not come 1200 also.... I recently got the little mean looking 883 Iron, I really like it, but I wish it was 1200, although I can afford the 1200 nightster, the all black looks of the Iron were more attractive to me, a matter of taste, I asked the dealer guys about a 1200 Iron, nobody had a clue if Harley is going to start producing that version... :-(
With the price of an Iron you could do the 1250 and still pay less. Paying under MSRP on my Iron OTD. The 1250 kit is about 1k plus the cost of install from an indy. That's my plan after the 2 year warranty runs out. Hoping that the PC V, Side Shots, and Heavy Breather will get me through until then. All things I would have done to the Nightster anyway.
