As a person that does all maintenance myself. I do suggest that you take it to the dealer for the 1,000 mile service. There is a LOT more involved in that service than a simple oil and tranny fluid change.

Actually on 07 big twins and newer you have to fill up through the derby cover since there are no primary inspection windows anymore due to the auto chain tensioner. Besides that is the time to be adjusting your clutch anyway.
