So I had the bike at the tech today having the air cleaner installed and a dyno tune done user a mastertune system. I am so happy with having noticeably more power. I am happy with the higher 7k rev limit. I am happy it stopped backfiring and sputtering. I AM NOT happy with the fact my Vance and Hines Short Shots now sound only slightly louder than my stock were.
When I put the V&H's on without the other junk they were loud as hell. As I rode them, they got louder and depper! Now, on the ride home I don't even notice them...they almost purrr now. And at idle I doubt I would wake a collicky baby. Did more air make that much difference? What gives? Any one else have this happen? I mean the bike runs like a champ....I had a hard time pulling it back in the garage tonight...but it sounds a little too metric for my taste now.
Yeah but what about 6,200 in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th??
6200 is all well and good if he installs a tach and uses it to avoid over revving and blowing the motor.
The problem often seen here with newbies, is that they have the idea that if they change the ignition module/rev limiter it's safe to use the higher RPM's. Without head work, and cams there is nothing to be had in the way of power above ~6000 rpm, and without lighter weight pistons your eventually going to take out the bottom end of the motor.

Maybe the dyno guy installed some baffles or torque cones? Stock Short Shots really offer pretty poor performance in the low to mid rpm range due to inadequate back pressure.
