Does a new break in period has to be done? Also doesn't Harley have to install it to keep your warranty? I had them price it out for me and it was 2300 bucks. For that i'll wait two years then get it done myself for far less.
If you believe in a break-in period on a new motor, then you should give the same considerations to the motor after the conversion. The pistons and rings are replaced in the conversion, that's the main reason for a break-in in the first place.
Ya i had them price it all out. Then its not parts that hurt you its the labor hours. Thats why it goes up to arouns 2300 bucks. I have heard of that break in. In fact thats the only break in i do. I did it on my new bike. And on my new Dodge Ram. I think it works good!
Have you any thoughts on changing the gear ratios to match those of the XL1200 after the 1200 conversion? With the extra power you could probably be running at lower RPMs on the highway.

A good thought. The reverse is true, also, with some 1200 owners wanting the 883's smaller front sprocket so they can take off quicker from a stop light! Maybe some guys will wanna trade...
I've put 500 miles on for break in period. Everything is A OK. Pulls real strong. I seem to get more on the top end too, the bike doesn't sound like it's stressing as much as it used to over 80 mph.
Local shops for a basic conversion charge $1200 to 1400
However, I did get a spectacular deal from a shop owner in my area. I paid $1200 for all the parts, that includes V&H exhaust, Andrews CAMs, then we did the work ourselves.
Is the gearing really different on 883 vs. 1200? I thought it was the same? When I asked one Harley dealer about changing sprockets they told me they never heard of that? Can I change sprockets and belts and get more top end? Whats the part #??
