Had a demo day at the local stealer and i rode a bunch of bikes. Then went over to the Rice dealer and test rode some of theirs. Here is my review.
1.Rocker C. Nice bike had power and handled okay. Wow Factor 4
2.CVO Road Glide. Lots of power and rode like a dream. Handles okay. Wow Factor 5
3.NightRod. Hated it. Handles like **** and not near as fast as you would think. Very uncomfortable. Wow Factor 1.
4.Street Glide. Kinda boring not really anything to talk about. Wow Factor 2
5.Street Bob. Cool bike handles well and has good power. Wow Factor 4
6.Suzuki Bandit. Really fast, handles okay and has great brakes. Looks ugly. Wow Factor 6
7.Kawasaki 650s. Lacks power but handles nice. Great brakes. Wow Factor 4
8.Ninja 1000. WOW!!!!!!! Ridiculously fast. I would die on it. Wow factor 9
9.Honda shadow. Boring, nuff said. Wow Factor 2
10.XR-1200. Unbelievable. Probably the best bike I have ever ridden. Handles like a dream and has plenty of power. It can keep up with some crotch rockets for a little while anyway. The Tach/speedo combo was awesome. Harley really hit a home run with this one. I think it is the perfect motorcycle. I love it. Wow Factor 10.

Sorry to say, Never test rode any harley before I ever bought a Harley,,,,,, being my second Hd... I just decided and rode with it!!!! Never failed me yet!..........give me to many choices,,,Im screwed.
Theres alot of great performance bikes out there, and priced lower than HD.... But F that sheet!!!
I know that there are many many other bikes that can out run the XR, but speed isn't everything. The XR is plenty fast enough. It was the whole package that I loved. I could buy a R1 for roughly the same price. But in my opinion it is too fast. I would be leaning on my wrist the whole time, the front end loves to come up and I don't like the way it handles.

There are just some bikes that are beyond peoples skill levels. The R1 is a dream machine and it handles superbly. Yes, the front end does like to come up but it doesn't have to come up and if you work on those stomach muscles your wrists won't be doing all the work. I love sportbikes, always have and always will but the XR1200 isn't a sportbike nor should it be compared to them.
