When I get the refund for my mirrors that didn't fit, I'm going to order a laydown taillight. From all the lense replacements, the laydown looks like it's the same bottom length, but it just angles towards the fender instead of sticking straight up. Are there any replacement lenses that are actually shorter overall?
I just bought a clear lay-down off eBay for my '04. The top dimension was the same as the stock but the bottom is lengthened to make it "lay-down." Not what I wanted. I plan to put LEDs in it, so heat is not a problem as it would be with some of the really shortened lay-downs when still using incandesent bulbs. There are plenty of red or smoked lay-downs that'll fit your scoot out there, and I've seen photos of them on this forum. Seems like the industry is taking a long time to catch up to the '04-06 model after-market accessories.
Thanx guys. Going the LED route would have been nice....but can't drop $80 right now. Went for a plain red laydown light for $25...should be on by the weekend. Also have a laydown plate coming to me as well.
I thought about going the LED route, but decided to try the 'regular' laydown light.
I'm running the stock bulb, and haven't experienced any overheating of the lense that I had read about. Plus, the stock bulb is very visable and provides plenty of light from both the back and sides of the taillight. It also gives enough light to work at night with the laydown tag frame.
thanx for the pic oldfenderguy...that's what mine'll be looking like Sunday afternoon!
I really like the setup, as it really 'cleans up' the look of the rear fender.
I had thought about going with a 'bobtail fender' for the 1200C (much like the one on my FXDWG), but I like the look of the stock Sportster fender now that the laydown taillight and tag frame have been installed.
I'm looking forward to next year when i get a solo seat on my bike and you'll really be able to appreciate the whole rear fender. My seat isn't like yours how it swoops down into the fender...i have the one that's big and tall in the back....so i really can't wait for next yaer!
