Default Anyone running Hardstreet saddlebags?

www.hardstreet.com

Sportser with Hardstreet bags:

As much as I like a stripped down bike and cool bobbers I like function and want to start travelling (or at least more than I have). I've made due over a couple years with my kurykayn grand tour bag and even had some throwover bags once (they're pretty useless at holding very much). I'd have a bagger if I could afford it and just build a cool little bobber but that aint happening. The Mrs. and I do some daytripp'n but thats about all so I'm seriously considering trying some Hardstreets since they're big (don't look too bad), watertight, lockable and fairly reasonable at under $400 for the builder kit. The need for hauling a variety of clothing at times (shopping when with the Mrs) not to mention thoughts of overnighters is starting to trump the fashionable sporty look. Thought about a trunk or T-bag setup but think carrying extra wgt. down low especially when hauling a passenger seems better.

Anyone have them, seen them in person etc. have an opinion on quality?

Here's my current limited 2-up daytripping setup:

The HD hardbags even when finding them on ebay (the real hard ones not the leather ones) are crazy expensive and I've seen them in person and they dont hold very much at all (a single rolled up riding jacket would just fit in one perhaps). The HD rigids have a lot of room taken up with a notch thats built into the bag for the shocks and did not have any more room than a pair of tourmaster throwovers I've had (my jacket would not even fit in them). From the dimensions and pics of the HS bags it looks to me like 2 jackets or enough clothing for 2 for an overnight would fit in just one of them. In one of the videos of the HS bags I've seen it looks like the guy even had a small cooler and gallon jug in one and clothing and half helmets in the other. I do like the HD leather or hard bags and Leatherpros as well but at over $500-1200 for them and limited overall storage make them cost prohibitive. My tourbag does pretty good at holding 2 riding jackets, sweatshirts, rain gear, gloves, tools, water etc. all at once so I'm looking for something additional suitable for overnight or more to hold clothing, bath stuff, food etc.

I have the Hardstreet bags and like them. Strong mounting bracket and easy to remove. I undo 4 nuts and both bags are off. Lots of room and as for the way they look, they are behind me most of the time. I mounted a small top box above them which helps with looks and acts as a back rest.

They now offer a narrower bag which might look better but with limited carrying space.

I carry a 2 person tent, cot, pad, and tools in one and sleeping bag, clothes, food and cooking gear in the other. Still have room for my Netbook and its all locked.

These look like they may be the perfect bags for me. acollins43, have you been able to verify that these bags are indeed water tight? I'd be putting my laptop, cell phones, etc. in the bags for my daily commute.

The Harley bags are just crazy expensive.

Yes, the bags are waterproof. Big lip on cover and good seal under that. When I mounted them I used Stainless rod instead of the bolts that came with the kit. I have a detachable top box and wanted to be able to remove the bags as well. I cut the rod to length and threaded through the fender to the nuts inside. I slide the bag mount over the threaded rod and use a washer and nut to hold it on. I double lock the front bolt and have had no problems. Threaded rod came from ACE Hardware.

Questions are welcome and I will try to post a picture soon.
