Hey guys, I am looking to raise (thats right, I said RAISE, not LOWER!!!!) the back end of my '08 nightster... any recommendations on how high is good/too much? Brand names? Any cheap 'rat-rod' mods that people have done to achieve this??
best way IMO, buy some 13" air shocks from a touring bike. you will get a way better ride and it will raise your rear 2" check ebay they are pretty cheap
I think the easiest way would be just to add rear shocks (lots of brands there, I prefer Progressive 412's if you ride solo, 440's if you ride 2-up) and just increase the size from stock an inch or two. I believe stock is 11", somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
My 2009 1200L had 11.6 inch shocks on it, I bought some 12 inch progressive 412 heavy duty shocks, wonderful after the stock shocks and I got some ground clearance.
I just got 12.5 inch progressives, even better!
As you go longer in a shock, the shock travel increases.
My stock shocks had about 2.4 inches of travel, which is amplified a little by the angle of the shocks. But its not much, and the ride suffers for it.
The 12 inch shocks have 2.6 inch of travel, the 12.5 shocks have 3.14 inch of travel.
That likely gives me 5 or more inches of wheel travel, which feels really good.
Anyone interested in 12 inch progressive heavy duty 412 shocks with unopened hardware for $150.00 shipped let me know, they have about 400 miles on them.
I raised mine up at least 2" with ohlins shocks. It may not look as cool sitting in front of the bar, but the added clearance and travel make an obvious difference. I just wish I could soften the ride a bit, the springs feel a little too stiff still. One day I'll get off my *** and call them to see how to fix it.
Here in South africa the nighster comes stock with a 13inch(obviouslly a DOT requirement)For looks I would like to lower the rear, but functunality especially two up ridding the 13 's are comfortable.H.
So I was just looking at the Progressive website... I see that the cost between a 412 series and 812 series is pretty dramatic, but what is the quality difference?
