Default Ape's or drag bars?

I know it's night/day but, I'm having trouble deciding which way to go here? Since I bought the bike and even before I "knew" I wanted drag bars...

I think I would go with around 30" drags with some sort of pull back and get a new riser. But, the more I look a set of like 12"-14" mini ape's look like they would be pretty comfortable and look good as well. I'm assuming I would have to get new cables if I get mini apes and I wouldn't have to with drag bars?

Can you guys give me some pro's and con's? Which looks better in your opinion?

Thanks,
Jason

I have wrestled the same decision.

Drag bars on a sporty look undeniably great. I'm sure the handling is nice as well but I cant stop thinking that the stance created with drag bars and my forward controls would kill my already tender back.

Recently I have been warming to the idea of Mini Apes. I personally prefer the look of drag bars but the Mini Apes appear to be soooo much more comfortable. I don't think the handling would suffer much with the short apes but the idea of swapping cables ( $$$!) bothers me.

As it stands now I'm leaning toward Mini Apes for the "fit" factor. Fit, however, is a personal choice and you may be completely different. If you are looking for the best look of the 2 I'd vote for drag bars.

If you want comfort i would go with the apes. Drag bars look great on sporties. Me i would go with the apes just for the comfort factor.

On a sporty I'd do drag bars. That's my preference. Get apes on a bigger bike if you ever get one.

Anyone know off the top of your head what all is behind the stock riser? I know it hides some wiring... Is it hard to relocate? If I go with drag bars (I think that's the way I'm leaning) I would want the drag bars that you would remove the riser and they have the riser and bars as one peice. I asume they would bolt up to the tree's where the stock riser mounts. Is this a fairly easy task?

Thanks,
Jason

Swapping the stock riser for a t-bar (drag bar and riser) will be simple - 2 bolts. Where are you going to mount your speedometer?

To be honest I hadn't put a whole lot of thought into that... I thought about doing the fishboy side mount speedo but thinking on my 4.5 tank it would be hard to see?

Other than that I was thinking there is some sort of bracket to just flip the spedo to the top side of the bars? I'll definitely be lookin' for more advice once I find some bars. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jason

To me, apes or drag bars comes down to the type of riding you do. Apes are probably better for cruising IMO, but if your into running twisties, it's drags (better control) hands down.

Also JMO, drags look fine on the C model riser, but apes on the C riser look dorky and out of place.

I'm with you on this. Apes on a Custom riser just dont look right but to each his/her own.
