Went to a dealer today to try out the new IRON. Never ridden a sportster before, never owned a harley.
Was affraid with my 6 feet and 220 punds the iron (or any sportster model) would be too small for me, and that the footrests would be uncomfortable. I was surpriced to learn that the IRON fit me just fine. Ok I only drove around for an hour, but still the seating position seemed fine.
I like the look of the sportster models very much so I am so happy that this bike "fit" me :-)
Im not even sure I would need forward controls for this bike, but I guess time will tell if I get one.
If you Rode that bike for an hour and it felt fine. In my opinion you need to go out and buy it and ride the hell out of it. You will have a lot of fun!
Gald you liked the bike and a Sporty is a great bike for sure. I'm 5'8" and have forward controls on my 2007 XL50 and would not have it any other way, but if the standard controls work for you then so be it.
I agree go for the 1200. My Husband is 6' and 300 and he rides an 84 custom Sporty and it fits him fine. His brother rides an 80 Sprotster and he is 6'4" and about 200 lbs. I am the short one at 5'4" and 130 and I love my 89 1200 Sporty. If you like it and it feels right buy it.
