Default grip installation

I just bought some grips for the scoot. Ive been doing my research here and feel like I shouldnt have major problem. Found a nice link from kuryakyn that described the process pretty well, except it didnt mention anything about cardboard for the brake lever. Should I use the cardboard or is it not necessary?

Yes. If not cardboard, find something that will keep the brake lever jammed open while you get the controls attached (a nut, a small child...). If you snap off the brake switch plunger, you'll hate yourself.

Ask me how I know.

Yep yall were right, it was very simple. I just took my time to make sure everything works. But I did notice that the throttle side has a very small gap between the two halfs. Enough for me to know it isnt right. The other side went back together like before. And the bolts are snug. Any ideas?

My wife had this too, are yours the glueless grips? Not that it matters, but here small gap was also on the throttle side.
Edit - I realize you wont glue the throttle side, just curious on the type of grips you got. Hers where the chrome with rubber stripping.

I have the glueless kind. Does your wife still have the gap or how did you go about fixing it?

She still has the gap, I just asked her about it and she has since pretty much forgotten about it. Its tightened to spec and she checked it a few time afterwards. I have the glueless nostalgic and don't have a gap. Does the fitment on the package say 96 and later XL on it? I never thought to check and we don't have our package.
