there are other guys here that are that big and ride sporties... I'm not that tall but close in weight and I have plenty of power in my 883... That being said I still wish I would have purchased a 1200 and, I've only been riding about 3months.

Welcome from Texas!

Hey i got an 883 and it has enough power for you. you can always get fwd mounted controls and that helps a lot, im about 6'1 and i have the iron which is basically an 883 low. i believe the 883 c comes with fwd mounted controls already. if you want more power can always do 883 to 1200 conversion, i hear it outruns stock 1200's. I know theres a lot of people on hear that have the conversion.

I just bought a 2001 883, with forward controls, and it has plenty of room for me and I am 6'1". I think it has plenty of power, but its the biggest bike I've ever ridden so I don't have much to compare it too.

I have an XL883C that I bough last April. I now have over 16,000 miles on it, and I still love the bike. The 883 is usually about $1200 cheaper than the 1200, so that is a consideration. You also get gray powder coat instead of chrome, so it isn't as flashy.

Yes, the Custom comes from the factory with forward controls, and it helps. I'm 6'01"/180 pounds, and I think the foot pegs are still too far back. The stock bars are just right for me.

If you are going to stay mostly on the backroads, and just sometimes out on the superslab, then the 883 is just fine. If you are going to be on the highway more often than not, then don't get the 883. (but then you probably want a windshield and bags too, so a Sportster isn't the right choice anyway).

One reason people feel it has plenty of power is because the MoCo gers it a little lower than the 1200. The disadvantage to that is the higher revs on the highway make you feel like you are abusing the engine.

I ride with a MC, and I can keep up on the highway (the bike will do 104MPH, but I chicken out at about 95) Still, I sure wish I had a 6th gear at about 70MPH. I could change the pulley or primary ratios for better cruise, but that would kill the acceleration and I'd get left behind.

I'm 6'2" and 185. The bike has enough power. Certainly not the fastest thing I have ever ridden but I have not had an issues.
