Default 04 Sportster Security Module Installation

Hey guys,

I picked up a TSSM module last weekend from the discount table of a dealer and would like to install it on my wife's 04 Sportster. I have the Service Manual, but installation instructions also refer to the Electrical Diagnostic Manual.

Would anyone please PM me and email me the pages from this Manual that covers the TSSM installation? It's for a 04 XL883C.

Thanks!

Check out this thread I started when I installed it on my 04 1200R. Just follow the procedure on the chart and you should be good to go. I would advise either charging your battery fully (and leaving on the charger if you have one) or unplugging the headlight or both so it doesn't kill your battery.

Thanks for the link, It looks like what I need, I'll install it this weekend. It looks like if I'm going to use two fobs I will need to pick up another one and program them at the same time, is that right?

It's pretty simple, just time consuming. I did it on my '06 per the instruction sheet. It takes about 30 minutes total. The instruction sheet may look lengthy ... but it is basically one step that is repeated three times in a row (approximately 10 min. each step).

What you are doing is programming the ICM to recognize the TSSM. The little key light located in the speedo will tell you when it's time to turn the key for the next step. I used a timer and it was approx. 10 minutes per step for the key light to go out ... It lights up when in programming mode.

The battery will need to checked, you will have to charge afterwards or use a jump (things you do when in a pinch, but it works). You can probably disconnect the headlight to save juice and have enough charge for the start.

Can I use my battery trickle charger while I do this? Or will that affect the procedure?

Yes, you can do that too just to get some extra juice to the battery. I have done it a few times when changing ignition modules from stock to SE. I had enough charge in the battery for the 2 out of 3 times I changed either the ICM or TSSM. The TSSM takes more juice to start than the stock TSM.

Personally, I found that If I could make it through the three steps without forgetting any procedures in the step ... my bike will start right up after the 30 minute programming procedure without an added power source with no problem. If you have access to a charger hook it up to be on the safer side. It really is pretty simple. The instructions may make it look more difficult than it really is.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the help. I used the Service Manual to install the TSSM and then the Table 3-30 in the above link to program the TSSM.
Then it's a matter of following the instructions in the small black manual that comes with the TSSM to program your FOBs and to set the password.
I also added the siren, which I added after I had the TSSM and FOBs programmed, I followed the instructions that came with it.

Glad to hear.

Yep ... the instructions pretty much cover the programming.
