Default Very High Compression in Back Jug

I have posted several questions over the last 8 months and was gone for a while. Anyway I have had my 89 stock 1200 Spory in the shop for a while because it would not start. The compression in the rear is over 200 and it is stopping the starter from turning. The compression in the front is 120. I have just pulled the rear jug apart and cleaned everthing and replaced the rings. I put it back together and I still have the same problem. Can a stuck valve cause High compression?

Help

That's an odd situation. What does the service manual say the compression should be? My 05 service manual says the compression for a 1200 is 200-225 psi. The jugs in my bike both read 210 psi. Maybe the 89 was suppose to have high compression and in reality the front jug is the one that is damaged with low compression?

The compression on the 89 1200 Sporty should be between 120 - 145.

I have never heard of such a situation so I can't help you. I seriously doubt a stuck valve would cause high compression. It would cause low compression if anything.

I just got a compression tester and well I fixed the compression problem now I am running 120 front and rear. We are going to have a starter rebuil for the high compression bike we have that is in pieces and see if that will work.

Thanks

I can't say about the earlier models, but on the 04+ models the compression should be between 125 - 140 on the 883's, and 200 - 225 on the 1200's.

The compression fix was pulling the piston and cleaning ALOT (almost 1/8 inch) of carbon off and replacing the rings. I wish I could figure out why I cant get the starter to go more than half a turn. I have had this problem for almost 9 months now. I can push start it but I no longer live on a hill. I need to get it to start so I can set the new points. I am back to needing an exorcist.

Well glad to hear you got one problem resolved. I'm sure the starter issue will be fixed soon and back to 100% bliss.
