i lost both L and R turn signal in the rear of my 2001 xl1200c found that the wire's had fallen out of the big clip in the fender and were chewed bad and broke from the tire i spliced the wires and are working great now my problem is i dont like the clip up inside the fender that holds the wire, i think they may fall again and there is next to no room, has anyone ever had a problem like this and how did you fix the problem
I'm sure it's not uncommon, given the design. I relocated the rear signals on mama's Sporty and couldn't believe that they aren't better protected than they are.
i loosen the fender struts and run shrink wrap around the inner fender rail, then i run my wires through this... really makes things better keeps wires on the side rather than under the fender in danger of hitting the tire... works great!
I had the same problem on my 99 custom. It is also lowered so I can barely fit my hand between the tire and the fender. I re routed them to the side and has seemed to work for about the last 2 yrs. I stopped by my local indy and asked for some clips and they gave some to me. I was pessimistic at first because they are peel and stick but so far so good.
I had the same problem when I put a 150 tire on my 2000, what I did was to lift the bike high remove the shocks so the tire would drop down then I siliconed the wires to the inside of the fender, I used a small board cut to the right size to hole them in place while they where drying.
I did this several years ago and if it works with a 150 tire it will definitely work with the stock 130 size tire.
