I have a 89 1200 sportster looks like a twin to Joe garicas bike. This is the first and only harley I been on ever. the last few weeks I been testing new bikes 1st up a 09 rocker then a 09 road king and a 08 dnya and a softail wow all i can say is my bikes way more snappy. I take off at a light and i lose people bad lol. From what i hear the 86 to 90s are super light and fast. i sure wish I could ride a newer 1200 like a 2003 or so to see if that got more or less power. Its not about speed Its just i was shocked to feel that new twin cam 96 had less power then my bike
take a look at my sportster thread i just made so you know what mods to make, im guessing im making HP in the 80s to 90s at boost pressures maybe more, my last ducati made 96 and this bike is so much quicker, but also has more torque
stay true to the bikes roots! keep it stripped and ready to race, not too many 1st gen evo sportys anymore!! if u ever get the urge to change it, DONt, ill trade you a 93 for it. this 93 is useless to me not quick or light enough hahaha
Have you guys seen the dyno numbers on the the new 96ci BT? They pretty much suck. With a full stage 1 they are lucky if they are over 80hp. With a BT if you want power numbers that are impressive and able to handle all the weight the only way to go is with the 103ci or the 110ci.
I was watching an episode of New American Thunder and V&H built a 103ci on an 09 Street Glide, and the thing would have no problem getting the front wheel off the ground. And it sounded amazing with that extra dissplacement!
my buddy has an 87 and that thing rips. were the 4spd.'s geared differently? i swear that thing is faster out of the gate than mine.
it was geared RIGHT, i have a 5 speed in my possesion as well and its like they designed it to be as weak as possible at all possible times... its not even worth ringing out the gears there all too tall, strictly for cruisin.
the 4 speeds start out low with lots of torque and 4th is tall enough that you wont need it under 65 you have to wring out the gears even when cruising to be able to shift becuase the jump between gears is fairly large, perfect for drag
