Alright I have a Harley Sportster 883 custom '07. I bought a forcewinder XR air filter assembly. I was thinking it would come with direction on how to install it, but it didn't. It came with a crank shaft filter and I do not know were that is. If any one has changed their filter assembly with this one or one like it please help with any information you can.
If anyone else has the same bike the Harley engine on the Sportster doesn't require a filter on the crank shaft. I found this info after many hours of research. Hopefully no one else has to go through a Harley store that doesn't know what they are talking about.
Are you sure you read, what ever you read, correctly? What makes you think it came with a "crankshaft filter" (I never heard of that one) if there are no instructions? Is it maybe a crankcase breather filter?
The only paper that came with the filter assembly did give me a list of the items that came with the assembly. It said crankcase filter, and it is talking about crankcase breather filter. The new Harley Davidsons motors do not have ccrankcase breather filter. This information came from a shop that works on Harley Davidson bikes.

They don't come with them stock per say but they do have crankase breathers for each head. Most smaller aftermarket a/c assemblies are smaller than the stock one which, covers the crank case breathers and allows and uses the stock a/c as a "crank case breather filter". So the aftermarket ones that leave the crankcase breathers exposed you need to add vacuum hoses that conect to a breather filter. So yes Harleys do have crankcase breather filters.

That's almost correct, except it's not "vacuum" hoses, but drain hose. There are a number of ways to configure an external crankcase breather. Here's one that includes a below frame drain line.
