The friction of the enrichener cable is adjustable, at least it is on my '96.
Loosen the hex nut on back side of the **** bracket. Don't remove it, just loosen it. There is a black plastic ring on the **** side of the bracket. Tighten it slightly until you get the resistance you want. Then snug up the hex nut, but gently. Remember there is plastic involved.

+1 on this,
however, mine actually broke, the plastic threads broke off so adjustment was not possible. when i had to get into the carb i just pulled it off and replaced the choke cable, it was only like 12 bucks. not really worth pullin the carb for just that IMO but next time yr gonna pull it ya can fix it then, untill then....well i used a nickel that i cut in half, its the perfect size to get a steady idle

There's no need to loosen the nut on the back side. Just slightly tighten the plastic ring on the **** side to the proper tension, and all will be good. That's how I adjust mine, and it sucks itself in as the bike warms up sitting still or riding down the road.
My step dad has an 02 883 and it sucks the **** in about half way once it starts up and you have to pull it out. I'll now have to see if I can adjust it for him. Just one more reason I love FI.
