Default Hardware docking kit

Hi
I just got a kit of docking hardware, part no 53544-04, for my Sportster XL.
According to installation instruction it seems that I have to remove the rear wheel!
Can anyone advise me how to get the bolts through the fender from the inside?

If that's the only way to mount it, then you have to put the bike on a suitable lift (or jack) and unbolt the shocks so that the swingarm (and wheel/tire) pivots downward, making room inside the fender.

Smile docking kit

On my 08 1200C, the kit went right on, a little tight, but did not have to drop the wheel. Bolts went in from the out side. Hope this helped. Ride safe.

Just by looking at a picture of the parts, it seems to me like the bolts would be on the outside, nuts inside.

I just put the docking hardware for the detachable rack and sissy bar on mine, it was simple, just put one piece on at at time and no problems with taking anything apart. I have an 09 xl1200l

They go in from the outside. Watch out for falling pieces when you remove the rear bolts. Look up under the fender. You'll see. I haven't removed the rear tire on any of the 6 bikes I've put 'em on. A stubby 1/2" wrench might be helpful. Don't forget the blue loctite!
I made my own bolts with some all-thread, red loctite and powder coated bungee nuts. Real nice having the bungee tie down points.

The bike is a 2008 Sportster 883 Low, and the bolts have to go from the inside. Take a look at this:

That's the docking hardware kit to be used in conjunction with Harley's Leather Saddlebags. If you're not installing permanent mount bags, you have the wrong docking hardware. The procedure may be different than the one I'm used to.
