Ok, I have the answer. And I did say it would be the simplest answer and I would feel totally stupid. I do. It was crossed plug wires. I had replies from you that could be the problem and I checked that but I obviously wasn't paying attention. I had turned the coil over when I relocated it and didn't realize it until now. Thanks for all the help! That's it. Bring on the scorn.
I kind of figured that was the problem thats why I suggested checking it. I did the same thing once on a car when I was about 17 I crossed the wires on my car and it wouldnt start thought it was a timing chain. Tore it all apart only to fingd the chain in perfect condition, and only realized what I had done when I was putting it back together. Glad to hear its back up again
Hey, I have a 2007 Sporty 1200XL. Same exact symptoms. Vance and Hines Stage One, otherwise stock. I did a wire tuck over the winter, came out great. All of that aside, all systems are good spark air and fuel comes out easily when I depressed the ball in the quick disconnect, good spark - new wires, air is good, the bike will fire up and run when I spray starting fluid in the intake. But he bike never runs on it's own or stays running. I am right into this as a fuel problem. A faulty CPS could cause similar symptoms, taking into consideration the bike will fire up and run on ether, I am summing the CPS is not faulty. So now now I have to look at the fuel issue as a possible fuel contamination problem. I had the talk off all winter, and apparently there may have been a very small amount of kerosene accidently added to my fuel through a short series of **** ups. Please don't ask, it was a **** up on my part. a DUMB one too. I think I have contaminated fuel, what do you guys think and what do I need to do to burn off the contaminated fuel in my tank, or take the tank off, remove the fuel pump etc and wipe out the inside of the tank or flush it out ? I have it narrowed down (at least at this point) to contaminated fuel. I have three sets of iridium plugs, all gapped at .040.
I've switched plugs twice already and the bike started on it's own (no ether) but would not stay running. What should I do ? I have this pretty much nailed won to the fuel being contaminated. Thanks in advance. -Rich

I don't believe a small amt. of kero. in your fuel will prevent the engine from running continually.
Hey, I am starting the bike using ether, and it runs. When I introduce fuel or try to introduce fuel from the tank/filter/fuel pump it will not fire. I am thinking of a clogged fuel filter. I'll dump the gas out of the tank again and add some more new gas with a bit of Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner. It will almost run, but seems like a fuel issue for sure. I am into it now. Do you know if the tank is removed, the hose attached, fuel in the tank, should the fuel free flow from the tank out of the hose connected to the quick disconnect fitting ? Or do I have to apply + 12 VDC to the fuel pump cable to produce a fuel output ? Thanks in Advance.
