Default First time 2 up

04 1200 c
Today I talked a friend of mine into riding around the block with me. The shocks were up three and I didn't have my spanner with me to pop them all the way. Im 220lb and she is not small not 220 but not small.

I hated it.

How much of a difference will it make to adjust the shocks? I found it to be very "squishy". Almost like driving an old big boat of a car.

Im guessing the passenger can also improve riding skills just like the driver can?
My girlfriend will never ride with me so Im wondering if I should just put single seat on lose the passenger pegs and call it a hopper.

Any tips would be great . Thanks

Put smaller bitches the back LOL ! Not hard to adjust the stock shocks with the wrench, but I also raise the air pressure from 36-38lbs. to 40 on My rear tire. Hey Your first time 2-up and You didn't have any skin meets blacktop issues, count it as a good day and it will get more normal as You go ........WVleo

i two up a lot... just came back in fact-
if you can be careful of bumps, you can work with the stock shocks. they are not the best for two up but they can work. bad bumps too fast and you will bottom out.
the reason that i wanted to reply was mainly to mention the importance of educating the passenger. a passenger should be instructed to lean with the driver. leaning the wrong way can be dangerous and land both on the ground (as previously mentioned above).
proper dress is important, imo, for both riders. when i first got my bike i had a couple of friends want to sit on the bike before i could say anything... both burned their legs on my pipes. boots and jeans would have prevented this (that plus instructon to be careful- amazing what you have to tell people- "the pipes are hot"- like this isnt common sense!!)

Thanks for the replies. Jeans boots long sleeve shirt all worn. Passenger was intructed to look over my turning shoulder. Maybe she was trying to stay up right I dont know. She was intructed to not not scream in my ear or freak out if hit by a bug. I could see proper air and shocks helping feel the road a little better. I guess all and all survival was cool.

I could definitely see a smaller *** being helpful. So when Im caught with a little hottie on the back of my bike Ill just tell my girlfriend I am working my way up to tote her fat *** around.

OUCH! Anyway....if you have a good passenger then it's not an issue being 2-up. But if she wont ride, I say throw a solo seat on it and enjoy!

I think Im going to go the solo seat route. Im the second owner and this winter I think I will make the bike mine. The first owner has two up seat luggage rack throw over saddle bags engine gaurd and highway pegs on the engine guard. Im thinking of taking all of that off and turning it back into a sportster. I ask my girl friend if she wanted a ring and she said something like blah you have to blah then you need to and blah. So I went out and bought a bike. Screw 2 up. HA

The Sportster is not a great 2-up bike. You can do stuff to it like change seats and shox to make it better, but it'll be a compromise. Do the solo thing with it. If you get serious about 2-up riding, then I'd recommend a big twin (but keep the Sporty...you'll miss it on those solo rides). And congrats on a safe first 2-up ride.
