modifications
Pipes are a Mod. lol Its just the beginning.
I think that there are many people that have no problem leaving a bike stock that have the funds to change them. If it's not broke don't fix it is one idea that comes to mind. I am not going to change my stock tires as soon as I have the money to a better tire just to make my bike different than a stock one. I am going to wait until I NEED new tires to make that change. The same goes with brake pads. I will upgrade them when I NEED to change out the stock pads because they are worn out. I ride with a few other Sportsters and a Twin Cam and they all have made engine performance upgrades and exhaust pipe upgrades that they say really made a difference in their bikes performance but we all still ride together on the same roads to the same places and we get there together at the same time. Do I really need my Sportster to go 125MPH when the fastest national speed limit that I have seen is only 75 MPH? Not really. If everywhere I went on my bike with my friends was a race to see who could get there first then I might consider upgrading my bikes performance some but it's not. As for making my bike different and unique, how can I if I only buy what is out there to buy? If I have a Black Nightster and I put some SideShots on it with a Roland Sand air cleaner I know that it will look cool, but I also know that there are going to many other Black Nightsters out there with the same Sideshots and the same Roland Sand air cleaner on it so then what is the point? My bike would only be unique if I don't park it next to the same bike with the same modifications to it. Bolt on customs are NOT custom! One of the best lines I have seen on the forums and so true. Leaving my bike stock almost insures that it will be different because a stock Harley is so hard to find anyway but hey, to each his own!
