Glad to here you're going to be OK Amzie, it sounds like it could have been much worse. I couldn't help but think as I read your story that it's exactly the same situation that caused Bruce Rossmeyer's death last month on the way to Sturgis.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

WOW...Amzie, I wish I had your outlook on life, don't tell me it's because of this one experience...I was told at 17 that I had a snowballs chance of living past 3 years , and that was in '78, so I have had something in my life...
But gee, your outlook is so great!

You really need to get an attorney who specializes in personal injury.

Amzie, you asked about memory loss. I was in a roll over semi accident many years ago. I was pretty messed up and for quite a while I didn't know the who's, how's or where's at all. Little by little parts came back except for the parts of the wreck that would really hurt. I think it is the minds way of keeping you from dreaming about the worst parts.

As for the bike, start over on someones garage queen.
I totally understand your drive to get back in the wind. If for no other reason then it is a way of saying I will survive.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope every thing works out for you. I think it's great that you want to get back out and ride, just take it slow. As for the bike, I would buy a brand new one if you can afford 2 or $3000 more, if not, a close to new used one would be good too... Best of luck to you.

I had gone down hard several years ago, and went through a bunc of the same - coma for a week, some reconstructive facial work, and I went for a ride the day I was discharged from the hospital.

Having said that, I am really glad you are alive.

Sorry to hear about your accident and glad to hear you are going to be ok. I always enjoy reading your stories of your travels. Too bad this one was cut short, get a new bike if for nothing else the piece of mind knowing it is in good shape. Best wishes for you on your road to recovery.

Sorry it took a while to get myself back in front of the computer. I've had a few bad days and the computer screen's brightness kills! The phones type is too small for me to post..one eyed anyway.
Thank you all for you kind wishes and prayers, and advice, I appreciate them all.
I will try to answer some questions, and make more clear what happened. I didn't hit the farm truck, I managed to avoid that. In doing that, I bounced off my brother and went into the ditch. They tell me there are dirt clods in both sides of my bike, so I also bounced from side to side in the ditch. I really haven't gotten the full story myself yet, but I do know, they said the truck was not hit amazingly. I'm sure when I am better, and when I can bare it, I will get the whole story.
The fractures in my face are lateral for sure... and I am told that is from direct full on impact, because most of time the head will split down the middle in this kind of wreck (oh the many joys of having family in the medical field) which all adds up to - I went thru my own windshield face first.. I am assuming when the bike came to an abrupt stop. Memphis makes a damn sturdy shield that is for sure!
I guess my attitude is from a combo of things maybe. I have had two other bad wrecks, one on a motorcycle with my dad before the age of five, and a car wreck several years ago, where I was a passenger in pinto and someone ran a red light in front of us ... also, I have been unfortunate enough to witness a few loved ones who chose the negative road on their way out of this world. After seeing that, you don't really want to be in that company. If my sense of humor only tickles me.. well, that is one person anyway... and I will make any heavy situation I can funny, or put a funny side to it that no one is seeing if I possibly can....it is just me now. I have already told my brother/family... "gee thanks for telling God to get me back dirt side pronto... did you ever think to ask ME what I wanted?!!, I had my exit ticket bro, now being the youngest, I am back to putting all of you in ground first." Yeah... it runs on the morbid side sometimes too ... but you would have to know my family.
I really love my bike, and I did not even consider taking the total until reading all your comments. It is a beautiful 05 carb custom classic... or was, and I know I wont be able to find another. Now I am going to have to seriously think this over. The insurance guy said the reason he had to total it was that any time the crash bar has any damage, it is standard to total it. Good to know... should have removed that thing. Eyes are killing me... got to log off now. Thank you, & safe travels to us all.
oh btw, thanks for the phone call Rob, and for not telling me I sound like a drunk with a broken face.

Sorry to hear about your wreck but I'm glad to hear that you are "ok." I totally understand messing with your family, you have to keep them on their toes...
