Default Difference between Sportster & Low

My wife has about had it with her Buell Blast. She is only 5' tall. We have looked on the internet at the seat height for the low and with shorter progressive shocks I think I can make it work. However, there are some SCREAMING deals on the regular sportsters. Is the low just a lower seat? That's all I am seeing, but am I missing something? Also bike-wise, is there any difference between the 1200s and the 883s (size, weight, etc.) other than more cc's?

Thanks guys & gals!

The size is the same, weight is very close to the same. Horse power is the main difference. If your wife is going to do any high way travel, a 1200 is the way to go.

Put your wife on some of them and see which she is comfortable with. My 883 runs on the highway all day long because it can and does.

Let her decide what she wants and is comfortable with. Standards or customs can always be lowered.

I just bought a 08' sporty low and the only difference is the seat height at 26.5" for the low and 28.5" for the custom. The low also comes with mag wheel option but other than that the dealership told me they are pretty much the same bike. The low is perfect for me as I have a 30" inseam. Hope that helps.

883L: factory lowered front & rear. 5'2" - 28" inseam, forward controls, Kuryakyn ISO Wing Mini Floorboards, 4.5" pullback risers. Awesome on the highway!

The low has the classic 3.3 gallon fuel tank on it too. I like the look of it and it'll easily go 120 miles before I need to fill up. But I usually need a break around 100 miles (riding either bike) anyway. 883 will do anything the 1200 can do, but the 1200 would be nicer if you do more freeway riding. Othewise, if money's not the issue, let her decide which model she wants. You'll be very glad she made the decision herself.

Thanks for the responses! Just to confirm - the only difference in the LOW or why they call it the LOW is just the lower seat, correct?

Seats lower, tanks 3.3 gallon and it has mid controls instead of the forwards. Change out the mids for forwards and you'll be good to go. I love my low. The custom just didn't feel quite right.

Default Low - Custom...

The low has mid-controls.
The custom forward.....

I also like the peanut tank...more flat track looking...

Sorry didn't see mid versus forward in post above mine.

The low also has a lowered suspension, via shorter rear shocks I believe.
