Default 2007 Nightster oil leak from dip stick

Just traded off my 2007 1200 Low for a 2007 Nightster. I've noticed on long rides oil leaking from the dip stick. The dip stick isn't the original. It's the stick with the temp gauge. Unfortunately I'm not mechanically inclined. Is this common with the oil gauge? Also, the bike has the screamin eagle heavy breather air cleaner and vance and hines shortshots-don't know if that's important to know.

no the exhaust and ac is not important in this case, but good thinking there. I would say the dipstick is probably not made for that bike, or it is defective. How much oil is in it? is it overfull? Find a stock dipstick is my suggestion. If you traded at a dealer, ask them if they would replace it with something that does not leak.

one little thing, it might not be the dipstick that is faulty but possibley an o ring on the dipstick. thats the only other thing i have to add

I had the exact same problem with this dipstick. The oil was getting pushed inside the dipstick, filling the body with oil and then oozing out under the cap which is outside the outer o-ring spilling out the top of the tank. I did take it back to the dealer and got a replacement. As soon as I got the new one home, I disassembled it using a very small torx and I completely filled the inside of the body with silicone glue and then reassembled. It has been tignt as a drum ever since. Maybe I didn't need to do that, but the glue will never stick once the inside gets oiled up, so I did it as a precaution. I think it is a good mod to be sure it stays tight.
