I have seen threads about this subject before. And I have had my chrome covers and lowers for awhile now.I tried once to do the work myself. But I couldn't get the spacers off.I had the tank off and the top covers off,but I just couldn't wiggle the spacer over the lower rocker. It wouldn't fit between the frame and the lower. Is there a trick to it? Someone told me I might have to loosen the motor mounts to make room? Is this true?
I have a print out of directions for this. But it doesn't say the spacer will get stuck. It also doesn't say I need to loosen the mounts. Also is there anything special about removing the lower rocker covers?
I have all the gaskets, the upper chrome covers, and the chrome lower rockers.I would love to get this done, because it is about the only thing left to do to my bike.Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
ps,
I do have a manual and it describes the job the same way my directions say to do it
No, you don't have to loosen the motor mounts to get the plates out. There's enough room to pull them out. Just take your time. It's been a while since I've had to tear mine apart, but I do remember having to finesse something for the rear rockers out from between the frame/engine.
