I'm all into my Sportster, too

But there is nothing wrong with getting a new Harley......

(I kind of wish they'd put a TC96 in a Sportster frame with a 6-speed--I'd buy that!)

I have a Sportster and a Dyna, The Dyna is much smoother, cruising at 75 is effortless, big difference in the ride. My dyna is an 05 FXDX and it really handles, I've never scraped, its also much better for 2up riding. The softails make mounting saddlebags a lot easier. Again, its about how you like to ride. If you want to travel any distance,or ride 2up, a dyna or a softail would be more comfortable. Your 1200 is quicker than a dyna or softail.

No offense, but to anyone outside the Sporster specific forums, it is. I am not bashing the Sporty, as there is one in my garage, but......
if by trading up he means a higher value bike then yes, a bigger bike? yes....an easier bike to ride 2-up on? yes....

To the OP, as someone else said, find a dealer that does demo rides and ride the different families......I would post this question of yours in the general chat area or something. Putting it in here is going to attract the BT bashers and Sporty purists more than anything else

Both Dyna and Softail would meet the criteria you state for another bike.....well....at least they're both 'heavier'.
"...a little better ride.." might be a more subjective thing.
I find the 'feel' of a Dyna is very close to the Sportster.

I went with the Heritage Classic. I like the looks...the ride...bags...windshield and 2-up comfort and power. But that's just me.

Try riding some on a Demo Day or ask your friends for opinions or try-out of their bikes.

all the best with your decision,

I agree. I own 4 harleys and they're all different. I had a sportster but my daughter loved it so much that I gave it to her for Christmas a couple years back. I never felt like I was trading up, I just wanted something different. Consider what you want the bike to do for you and what "fits".
