So I just bought a power commander to put on my nightster. Loaded the closest map I could find and installed it today. One thing though when I connected the co2 eliminators they made my check engine light come on. When I removed the eliminators and plugged the co2 sensors back engine light went off. I rode the bike, ran great, and the check engine light has stayed off. What I am trying to find out is whether or not it is ok to run the bike with the power commander but without the supplied sensor eliminators? Is it gonna cause problems? I really don't want to run the bike with the check engine light on. Also seemed like the idle was really high on the bike and when I removed the eliminators and plugged sensors back in it started to idle better as well.
One more thing that I did not like. I picked an advanced map with screaming eagle slip on's and the rest of the bike stock because that is the closest thing I could find to my python 3 slip ons. Once I installed the power commander it made my exhaust really quiet when before it had a really nice sound. I just changed my map back to stock to get the sound back. I am waiting for my alren ness air breather to get here. Guess I am just wondering if once I put on my stage 1 breather and download a map for that and the slip on's is my bike gonna sound quiet like that? Just ramblin on here, gotta million things running through my mind. Anyway's any help with the power commander would be much appreciated.
can't help you much here but I can say that power commander's customer service is a great help. give them a call.
Ps. If you just installed the slip ons and nothing else, you didnt need the power commander and that may have been what caused the light to come on.
Well I did send em an email but being the weekend not gonna get a response until next week sometime. I will try giving them a call tommorrow. I knew that I didn't need the power commander until I put on my stage one breather but I got it for 60 bucks off of ebay and figured what the hell might as well try it out. It is supposed to have some other advantages as well. Also my bike sounds great but tends to back fire a bit when I let off the throttle. It also tends to get a lot of vibration in the front end when I accelerate. I did notice when I ran the pcIII with the advanced map the bike ran better overall, wasn't back firing anymore and the vibration in my front end was gone. Bad part is it seemed to idle high and the sound just sucked. Sounded a couple steps away from a honda. I am sure there is probably a way to adjust the idle with the pcIII just not sure how but as far as my exhaust sounding quiet not sure. I was under the impression that when you install the co2 eliminators it was supposed to keep the check engine light from coming on but they did anyway. But then again I don't know much about it just what I have been teaching myself from the internet and these forums.
Ok got an update here hopefully it can help somebody in the future. Hurts to say this but looks like the check engine light was my fault because I was plugging one of the eliminators into the wrong freakin plug. Before you even say it I already know..... Anyway I went to the stock configuration but with high rev enabled and made the bike 1 level richer with the power commander and it is running and sounding excellent. I did also find one small exhaust leak right where the the slip on clamps down. I tightened the hell out of it and that was almost the end of my back firing and popping sounds. Has a really small one now once in a while but 200% better. Hope this helps if anyone has any of the same problems. Don't be a dumass like me and make sure you plug the sensor eliminators into the correct plugs which will be the ones connected to the exhaust. Looks like that should do it until I get my arlen ness big sucker and then I can do this all over again!
shouldn't need the O2 sensors if you're running a power commander. if you could be so kind, let me know what download you use when you add the big sucker, i got one on the way as well.
yea but I did not want the check engine light to be on and with one of the o2 sensors still being plugged in the bike wouldn't run like it should with the power commander. All is fixed now though. I will let you know when I get to the big sucker what setup I go with, however it will be a bit have some more pressing issues that I have to deal with right now. Bike just gonna have to wait a bit.
