Suspension upgrades (other than road king shocks or progressive)
I've searched the forums for suspension upgrades and there seems to be alot of people using road king shocks or progressive. What other names are out there? can i get anything good other than touring shocks or progressive brand that will give me good comfortable riding?
i cant stand the way road king shocks look on a sporty...progressives are good lookin but i've never experienced the ride...
ive heard of licks for lowering but how do they ride? any help would be appreciated.
i'm not that easy. i've done stuff cuz people said it was cool before and it didnt always work out as well as they said it would. I'm sure people love them. but i'm just looking for options.
some people mod their own shocks... springs from a sportster custom shock with the shock body of the roadster shock ( whittlebeast hybrid )The sportster 1200s shocks are also good .I'm running the ohlins hd141 shocks and like them alot.

google whittlebeast .a real good shock for the money.
licks are short shocks so they are gonna be pretty rough. i'm running 11" (stock size) heavy duty progressives and fuken love 'em. if you do go progressive get the heavies which are for 185 lbs. and up, trust me you'll bottom the regular ones out. all in all, leaps and bounds better than stock for the $. i personally don't like the look of the RK shox either. you can go air ride but you better start sawing off your arm now. there's a youtube video of a guy with a nighty that installed the legend air ride kit and it's bad *** but don't think he commented on the ride. heres the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnVLjJ45JHs
FXDX shocks are nice, but they'll jack your back end up more than you'd probably like (13.25" eye to eye). The prices on eBay for them are all over the place, though. I kept watching and bought a pair for $100, including shipping.
Judging from the other thread you've been in for shocks, you need to steer clear of the Lick's short shocks. I have the Lick's shocks on mine, but my GF & I can stand the ride just fine. You're looking for comfort, but the Lick's shocks will be almost like riding a hardtail.
