Default HD Slip on muffler question

A few years back a friend had SE II on her 883. They were nice but are no longer for sale. Now I wanted to do a stage one on my 04 1200. I wanted to keep to low but wanted the performance. I bought the ONLY exhaust that HD sells for my bike 80415-04 which also says they are 49 state street legal. They are list in the 2010 SE Pro Racing Parts Cat. My question is are these going to work with my SE Backplate, K&N air filter and jet kit or are they going to restrict the air flow too much ?? I thought they were SE and the box has the SE logo, but the rear muffler says "Harley Davidson" and the instruction sheet doesn't say SE or high performance. Did I make a big mistake and just buy OEM mufflers ??

Thanks in advance Be Safe JIM

You can use the 07+ mufflers on 04-06 models. They are the same. I'm using the Screamin Eagle Street Performance Mufflers (07+) on my 04 right now. They have a nice sound (not ridiculously loud) and I definitely noticed an increase in performance. Supposedly they are street legal (under 79 decibels or something) but I don't see how. They must be a little louder than that.

When they do the test for this it is measured at a set distance (50 feet in Washington), 3500 rpm no load (light throttle) as the bike goes past in most states. Pipes that seem loud will general pass that test.

Yep, the 'original' Screamin' Eagle mufflers are completely different animals that the newer versions (especially the street legal models)..

I run these on my FatBoy and also have a 'spare set' to put on my Wide Glide if and when the Rush mufflers need to be replaced. (The below picture shows the original SE2's on my FatBoy..)

The PN you are looking for is 80249-99A for the Baloney Cut version, and 80290-99A for the slash down version, and as you said these are very hard to find these days.

I did snoop around and found a new set of the Baloney Cut 80249-99A mufflers, and I prefer the Baloney Cut's for a few reasons.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harle...Q5fAccessories

They show a Buy It Now Price of $188 which isn't that bad, especially as rare as they are. For what it's worth, the original MSRP for both the 80249-99A and 80290-99A mufflers was $210.

UPDATE;

I checked a 2003 HD Parts and Accessories Catlog I have for fitment of these mufflers and it says the following;

"Fits '98 and later XL models (except 883R), '92 and later Hugger, and '96 and later XL Custom models."

Jamesr242 You say u have a 04 and you have the 07 pipes ?? Did u have to do any mods or was it a direct bolt on ?? I am looking at getting the slash down part number 80503-07 but I already made one mistake, don't want to do another one. Thanks in advance Be Safe JIM

No mods necessary, direct bolt on. Plenty of carbed bike on xlforum.net using those mufflers as well. I think the reason they aren't listed as fitting the 04-06 bikes has to do with the EPA.

Thank you so much. I returned the pipes and ordered the 07 SE pipes from CHI HD today. Hopefully I will have them in a few days. Be Safe JIM

I have the 07 SE slip on's on my 07 1200 and hated them-they were on the bike when i got it. I drilled out the baffles and they sounded better, but now I have the baffles out so they are just big open drag pipes and I love the sounds once the pipes are warm, but they are crazy loud. If i were you I would get Rush slip on's, Rhinheart's or a Vance & Hines set up. IMO SE mufflers suck!
