I've done it several times.

I lowered this bike a little over 2" by cutting the coils.

And this Fat Boy the same way.

I've done a few metrics as well.

I have no problem at all doing it. I would suggest going with a heavier fork oil if you cut the coils.

How low do you want to go? If it's just an inch or so you can just slide your fork tubes up the trees a little..............might be easier and if you don't like it you can put'em back.

I agree with Fanda m on raising the forks in the tree. I did it on my sporty about 3/4 of an inch. It lowered the bike quite a bit. I have 4 inch longer forks in my bike. This bike was new to me and I just wanted it lowered. Road much differrent. I just today replaced my fork tube with stock lenght because 1 that had a bad seal. Haven't rode it yet. Too much road grime on the roads.

sweet well i was gonna do the lowering blocks in the rear from jp cycles. and my bike already seems to sit a lil low in the rear. not sure by how much.
i used to work at a coil spring machine shop so i was thinking about getting them to do it for me. good thing i left on good terms. haha

yeah, i'm thinking i'm gonna just put in the gold valve emulators and heavier fork oil after i slide my forks up a bit more. right now i have it up about an Inch and 1/4, and haven't bottomed out but once, but that was a bad dip.

but i'd like to lower it like another half to 3/4's... i think the emulators and heavier fork oil should do it enough. right?

They are the stock shocks from my Nightster (1" shorter than stock) and the lower mount is relocated rearward 2" with some pieces I made.

I haven't ridden it though. It's a project bike & that was something I did to get it low but decided to hide a mono-shock in there. But, my wife's bike has the stock shocks & the lower mounts moved rearward 3". She doesn't bottom out on it & I've ridden it with my daughter on the back with no problems but we don't have alot of crappy roads here...

My wife's

I used Progressive fork springs with very short top spacers and stock rear shocks with the mount relocaters. Hers rides great. Much much better than stock.

Don't the forks get pretty spongy when you shorten the springs? You're taking all the preload off when you do that. I recently replaced my fork springs with Progressives, and while experimenting with preload spacers, ran with very little preload for a test - the thing wallowed all over the place when taking a curve.
