I was on the freeway this evening and noticed the speedo on my 04 custom seems to read that I'm going a little faster than I actually am. I'm guessing 7-10 mph off at most. Any suggestions? I've got about 2800 miles on the bike. Thanks!
I assume it's stock. Well just going down the freeway I'm going along at about 70 and cars are just flying by. I'm going to check it for sure this weekend but this particular stretch of road I know well and it seems I'm going a bit slower than in my car.
I have an '04 1200c and wonder the same thing. I bought it used about 5 weeks ago. Put about 1500 miles on it since. Seems like cars fly by at 70 mph. I usually run about 80 to 85 on the speedo and get passed seldomy, and pass a few in the process. Most traffic on the highway around here runs about 75 to 80 mph, I-35. So I'm guessing I am actually running between 75 and 80. About 5 or so off actual speed. I'm going to get the Mrs. on the highway and pace her to see what I actually get.
I had the same problem. Some say having your ICM reflashed by your dealer will fix the problem. My dealer laughed when I asked about it. He reflashed my ICM and now my speedo seems better. He did say the speedo may be as much as 5-10 mph off from the factory???Good Luck...
I had my ICM flashed and it definitely made a huge difference in the accuracy of the speedo ( my speeds at shift points are more realistic now) and changed the ignition timing (for the better). I will try and post a like to the service bulletin tomorrow. My dealer did the service no problem, no questions asked when I handed him the service bulletin I had printed out (Thanks Adobe!). And it is a no-charge item. The bulletin even says it is to be done as a warranty item, and to call HD to goodwill it if the bike is out of warranty.
I want to say off the top of my head it is bulletin M1162...you can definitely google it to find the pdf.
