Im now looking for a cruiser. 90% of my riding is done in the city, so sport bikes or anything with an aggressive seating position is out. Plus, Im not into racing around, Id love to sit back and relax. I went to the local Harley dealer to see a mint used Bonneville, but it sold that day. Too bad. Then I saw the pearl white 1200 Low. Wow, sexy bike. Add pipes/FW controls and its the ultimate urban bike in my eyes. Im 5'9 180 and I felt real good on the bike.
Is $9800 OTD a fair deal? Im going to try and get it for that price WITH controls installed. Am I crazy? I really hate buying new, but the Harley resale seems to be awesome. It makes me feel somewhat better about swallowing the dreaded 1st eyar depreciation.
same exact bike I bought last week! I love it. I had a 636 ninja and cbr 600 before. Tired of being sore after 10 minutes of riding. Anyways, I paid 10,200 for the one with spoked wheels which are 325 or so extra and se2 pipes. Sounds like a good deal, well below msrp. They may be bargaining a bit more with the 07's here but stay away from that epa crap they have on them. I didn't want to let the color I liked pass by(happened before) so I bought it. You won't regret it. Sounds like you are also my size and have the same mods in mind! Good luck! Also, I recommend the service package if it's a fair price at your dealer. I talked them down 2% in interest just getting that which will pay for itself in finanacing! Let us know!
I need some information from you. Are there any options on the bike? Where do you live?
I live in Detroit and the economy is tough around here. It is the end of the 06 model year so let me price this out for you based on the Detroit market. I think that an xl1200l has a base msrp of $9400. The local dealers are knocking a $1000 off that right now so it nets out to $8400 plus freight, plus 6% tax and license fees. So around here that bike will cost $9300 out the door. If you want an optional colorm, security system, ect add that to the price.
Some parts of the country will not discount the price at all and others may take more off. It is all based on supply, demand and current inventory. Good luck.
cmk: Good stuff. Is that an OTD price? Were the spoke wheels on the bike, or did you have them added? Did you go with the wheels that come on the Custom? I prefer spokes, but they guy didnt exactly tell me that they were an available upgrade. Id def pay 3-400 more for the spokes...
mark: Philadelphia, sales tax is 7%. this exact bike has no options, and they have a ton of Sportsters in stock. Unfortunately, this is the last pearl white 1200Low.
I think he gave me $500 off and dropped the freight. $9,615 was the MSRP.
They told me mine was te last one, too. I went with the 1200r. I just liked the look and I have plans for it....anyway.
I bargained my way to 7900. I asked if if this is the last one, then you really need to sell it don't you? Stupid guy said yes. So I went off the look at another bike and he went nuts because he thought he lost the sale... After that he was toast...
I got the SEII's, Jet kit, and spoked rims (still on back order )
Good luck, don't forget to do as much research as you can on the bike the financing...etc. It may be a pain but its well worth the effort. Talk to them as much as possible, see what they are willing to budge on.
They're really starting to blow out 2006 models. A dealership in MA is advertising their last 6 2006, 1200 Customs for $8.990 regardless of color. New 1200 customs for 8,990! and their 883 Customs for $7,290 ... so you may be able to get a better price if you wait for the 2007's to come out in your area.
No, my otd price was higher with my service plan, etc. 10,200 is what the bike itself cost. Also, the dealership here had 2 that were the same. Mine with spokes and the other with black wheels. It is an option and they are a bit smaller than the custom wheels. I always heard if you could get the 1200's under 10k it's a good deal! I paid 9,950 if you don't count the pipes!
We just bought a 1200L last weekend. The total was $12,000 OTD that includes 5 year extended. I think your price is great, you can wait but remember if you wait to long it may be gone.
