my 2009 nightster has been sitting for 3 months over winter. it s really nice today and want to ride. it just had oil change prior to winter but will it be really bad just firing it up and going for a ride?

 

Why would it be bad? If the battery is charged, go for it

 

From what little I know, its only bad to start and stop your bike through out the winter just to 'get it running'. This causes excessive wear on your pistons/cylinders due to lack of oil in the cylinder. As the bike sits for a long time, more and more oil slowly drains back into the pan. But if your gonna ride it, well thats what the bike is for! I;ve been riding my new (new to me) '08 nightster all weekend here in Canada, and its only about 5-8 degress C. Have fun, and watch the pavement!

 

We need lots of rain here to wash the salt away before i get mine out.

 

I don't think it will hurt it at all. just get it changed sometime this spring. Don't forget to make sure the oil is up to the proper level!

 

Thanks all- yeah I was really just concerned about the fuel having been sitting for 80 days or so. But it ran great- what a tease weather wise.
