Default Electrical problem please help.

Forward brake light switch did not work. Replaced it and tried a test, during test, a clicking came from under the seat and the rear markers did not work, no brake light. Undid the right hand control and reinstalled. This time there was no click, the turn signals and work fine brake work fine, problem is that the marker lights do not come on. The bike is a 95 XLH 883. While investagating this problem over the last two days, I have found that there has been many cut wires repaired with a quick twist and elect tape. I have been repairing them as I go. A big question is that at the plug under the seat, I get continuity on both terminals to the gound. I may have just said that wrong but it has been a long day. If any one has an idea why the markers do not work let me know where to test.

It is really hard to diagnose an electrical problem.

Where you think the problems may lay, may not be the case at all. Many times more than one system is on a circuit and when you energize the wire it may be going to ground in another area.

The only advice I would give is, get a wiring diagram for your bike and trace the circuits... there is not telling what kind of work arounds the previous owner may have done to rid himself of a problem he was having....

Sorry...

I might be missing something here. Are you calling the front turn signal/running lights marker lights and the rear turn signals marker lights? If so, the rear lights are single element and only flash, they do not stay on like the dual element front ones do.

When you get a wiring diagram, BE SURE IT'S FOR A '95. My bike is also a '95 and for some reason that year has a "unique" wiring harness that apparently is different than all others. Check the price on a new harness and you'll see what I mean.
