Default Painting the Engine

So, for whatever reason, I can't post under the tech or DIY forums, so I guess I'll ask here.

I've got an 88 Sporty that needs some attention and one of the first things I want to do is paint the the motor with some black wrinkle paint. My only concern is if the wrinkle paint is going to affect the cooling of the engine. Will the wrinkle paint still dissipate the heat well enough to keep the engine cooled? Any help is appreciated.

Since HD paints the motors on the 883R and the 1200R, can't be an issue...unless you put 10 coats on or something.

Powder coat dont paint. The paint will wear off but powder coat is bonded to the parts with an electrical charge like chrome is bonded. Its much more durable than paint.

I agree with powdercoating. Much more durable and will stand up to the elements for years to come. Of course it's a bit more $$ up front but it's a one-time deal.

But if you're talking about painting the jugs then, yes you can paint them with a hi-temp paint. Mine were painted black from the factory and are still looking good. The longevity of your paint job relies heavily on the prep BEFORE the paint.
