Default Shocks Question

Hi guys and gals, I am purchasing a 2005 XL883 (standard height-Non Lowered) and could use some advice on what rear shocks, Road King Or Street Glide and size to purchase to keep the standard height of the bike. I also couldn't find what the stock size is for the 2005 XL883 eyebolt to eyebolt. Are the shocks on the STD XL883 as terrible as the lowered sportys?

Any help is highly appreciated.

No I don't want to know about what kind of socks you wear . Tried to edit the misspelling to no avail.

My 06,Xl 883 standard had miserable shocks so I went with progressive 412's. I like them a lot better than the stock shocks.

Take a tape measure and measure center eye to center eye and that will confirm the answer. Then order shocks with the same length if you want to keep the same height.

And yes the stock shocks are as horrible as everyone says, specially once they experience a good progressive or an air shock off a RK/SG.

Thanks Guys, I think the length for the XL883 shocks is around 13-1/4" to 13-1/2". So Road Kings or SGs probably won't work without them lowering the rear correct?

The stock shock on a "2005 XL883 (standard height-Non Lowered)" should be 11.75" (center of eye to center of eye). A Street Glide shock at 12.5" will work fine.

I read online the stock size is 13-1/4" for the standard Sportster. Here's the link.

You can increase or decrease ( within reason ) the length of your shocks with out issue. Do you want clearance and cushion or cool? That depends on the riding you will be doing and weight load on the bike. Progressive shocks , from ebay, have worked great for me. Never used ( on a Sportster ) Road King air shocks, but many have with good results.

With my 2 sportsters, the stock shocks were unpleasant. But the roads in Maine are very rough. I go 180' with gear and ride solo.
