Okay, I am looking at a 1997 Sportster that my girlfriend's parents own. I don't know if it is a 883 or 1200...not to important to me. It does have very, very low miles and appears completely stock aside from a windshield.
I am looking at it for a project build.
I need advice as it comes to pros and cons of a 1997 Sportster. I have little to no knowledge of the Sportster platform, but after reading in this section off and on, I have decided to approach a road-racer build.
97 is going to be carburated and will have solid motor mounts (newer models have efi and rubber motor mounts to ease vibration, from what I have heard the rubber mounts add about 50 lbs to bike), both pros by the sound of your build. I am sure that if you could find out the model and motor size folks would be able to give you more specifics.
