Default Need quick help Priamry chain adjustment

My step dad has a 02 883 and the primary chain is super loose. Can someone post a how to for the adjustment please. I want to do it for him tonight so we can ride this weekend and his chain is so loose I can move it with my finger from the inspection hole about 1" give or take. We do not hear it making nosie, but it just seem way to loose to me.

Thansk in advance.

That's perfect, but whats the best way to rotate the sprokets? Just put the bike in gear and roll it?

Should be.........

If you get it too tight you'll hear a whine from the primary. In that case, just back the adjuster off a bit.

Dude thnaks again so much! I'm going to adjust it this weekend. His chain is loose! You don't hear it making nosie while riding, but if you take the inspection cover off it is very floppy with your finger. There is more then 1/2" of play when warm if i have to guess.

It may not be exact but after following the above instructions in my manual a couple times I now just take off the inspection cover when it's cold and adjust the free play by exactly the width of the chain (ie: wherever the top of the chain is when hanging loose I adjust it so the bottom of the chain is at the same point when lifted), works fine for me and it's quick and easy.
Please don't flame me for being lazy

What is the best way to find the tight spot in the chain?

You can also do a search on xlforum.net. There is a thread on doing the adjustment that I followed and was really good. It's done with the motor running, based on sound, and test rides. Worked like a charm.
