Could be you swapped the wrong wire's and switched the hot wire to the coil instead. Hooked it back up like oem then turn on the ignition and find out which wire is hot "12volts" and just swap the other two trigger wire wires.
You did swap the sparkplugs leads too ???
From what i read on another post, the two 'hot wires' are tied together at some point in the circuit and the two 'trigger wires' are the negatives that go to the ECU and open/close the circuit... maybe i need to swap THOSE two identical Yellow w/ Green trace wires rather than the two 'different' wires.
I'm about to go buy a service manual if i can't figure it out.
I'd just do it by trial and error but don't wanna fry any expensive little boxes.
hey capitalist.. from looking at my electrical service manual... here is the description of the cables/connectors:
Ignition Coil connector .............cable color ............. description
A ............................................. Y/GN ...................connects to Port B then to a System Relay
B .............................................Y/GN ....................connects to Port A then to a System Relay
C .............................................Y/BE...................... Rear Coil
D .............................................BE/O .....................Front Coil
it seems like the ones to swap are the cables C (Y/BE) and D (BE/O)
Don't know about Sporties but on my softail I just swapped the wires at the connector coming from the ignition module. Didn't have to cut and solder anything.
I'm hoping it's just a coincidence that the battery took a dump on me while i was doing this mod. Going to the dealer tomorrow to get the battery tested. The bike cranks up fine with the battery on the charger with the wires in the original place or swapped (with plug wires swapped accordingly). When there is an issue the started solenoid makes that ugly clicking noise that denotes inadequate amperage.
* If the battery tests good, then it's obviously a short causing the drain. We shall see...
