Question Avon Distanzia Supermoto tires...

http://www.motostrano.com/avdisuti.html
... any reason we couldn't (or wouldn't want to) run a set of these on a Sportster...?

I would have to get a new 17" wheel in the back because that's the only size they offer for a rear tire.
They do make a 100/90H-19 for the front though.

I think they would look pretty mean on an Iron or Nightster.

They say, in one of the customer reviews, they got 5k outta the rear.
The tread appears to be a little deeper and softer than a standard m/c tire.

I believe it's mostly to do with load rating. That's what i was most concerned about... they're 'Supermoto' bike tires and specify in the description that they're "Tough enough for larger capacity Supermoto bikes".
Soo...
Dunno how the weight of a 'larger capacity supermoto' compares to the weight of our Sportsters.

I'd hate to go from a 150 down to a 120 on a 16" wheel, but that's as wide as they make them.

It's the load rating. Those tires are meant to be ran on a bike that weighs about 300lbs.

Sounds about right, i'd imagine the road would eat the **** outta soft tires like that even on a relatively light Sporty... and with that extra weight at high speeds for extended amounts of time (especially 2up) would really stress the belts out and heat the tire up more than it should be.

Still... they would LOOK really cool.

The day Avon makes a 4ply in a 150x16", they've got at least one sale they can count on.

Pirelli makes a tire that looks kind of like that called (I think) the Scorpion. Look cool as hell but I'm not sure if they have the same cons as those Avons. May be worth a look if you are serious about that style of rubber.

I got a front from Motorcycle Superstore on sale w/ free shipping right before x-mas.

I'm gonna run it and see how it does. Will report back.

Anyone else have experience with this tire yet..? Road report..?? old skool1983???
