Got a new 09 1200c 00,006 miles on when I picked it up from the dealer
just around 00,750 now.... question is how many mpg's should I be averaging? low fuel indicator is coming on @ 100 miles or so... every time I top off I reset the trip meter so what gives?
The low fuel light on my 09 883L comes on with about 1.5 gallons left in the tank. I think it is supposed to come on with .8 gal left in the tank. I get between 43-47mpg around town. My fuel mileage improved a lot after I got ~3000 mi on the bike.
The small print on things that say YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY comes into play here. Your gas mileage depends on how you drive, where you drive etc. But with your bike you "should" be getting mid 40's - low 50's once broken in.
My 883R got 48-55mpg but when I had the 1200 conversion done the gas mileage went down to 40-45mpg...just as a comparison
I was expecting to encounter some differences during break-in...guess i did'nt think there would be that big a diff
so far I have not hit 200 miles to a full tank... last fill was roughly a 4. gal top off with about 180mi on the clock/trip
1200 c is a 4.5 gal tank- and the fuel gauge is worthless... mine comes on at about half tank. so i always set the odometer when i refuel so i know how much gas i really have!
as to mileage, it depends on how and where you ride. i do a lot of city ride like you stole it riding and have seen as low as upper 20s. on the road i can get 50-60 mpg. also your set up contributes- i am running a big air sucker with v&h pipes and a fuel controller set more rich than normal. bike runs absolutely wonderfully, but i could get better mileage (i assume) if i set it a bit more lean.
still completely stock have'nt even wiped the first round of bugs off her yet!
and I ride pretty mellow on country roads and small town streets.....all the speed limits round here are like 35 mph
do a search and you will see that both mileage and the fuel light are discussed in depth all over here.
Consider yourself lucky that your light comes on at 100 miles. That light is highly unreliable and cant be trusted.
Last night I rode my scoot hard with my girl on the back. 120 miles and 2.6 gallons=45mpg. This is after a hurricane flow and pipes. If I am running on freeways I get close to 50 mpg with running 75ish.
As wsa said before your mileage may vary. The only true thing is to keep the trip odometer up all the time and learn YOUR bike with YOUR riding style. Thats the only true way to know.
i just gassed up my sporty $5.00 exactly , 1.5 gal exactly , and i checked my trip meter 100 mi exactly .????? since last gas so my milegae is what in the 50's?
