I was running the idea around in my mind about getting a crash bar and highway pegs on my bike... I think it would take the looks away but Im not sure... What are yalls thoughts?
I used to hate the look of crash bars but lately they are starting to grow on me. I think if you pick the right one it won't hurt the look of the bike.
I have seen some on the nightsters and they look good, they are the oval looking ones... They would look pretty cool I would think and they would have a good ride to them. When riding 100s of miles with forward controls like mine it gets my legs a little tired
Before I bought crash bars on my Sportster I thought the same. It would take away from the looks. But, now that I have them and highway pegs, I wouldn't do without them.

But yet tens of thousands of other people do the very same thing. You have to stop for gas anyway, so that is where you take a break.
Crash bars......my thoughts.
They are ugly as hell, and you only need them if you crash at slow speeds. In a crash at high or moderate speeds the bars won't do a whole lot to stop damage, they are basically for slow crashes or drops. Add that together, and to me it looks like putting training wheels on a bike.
But some people think it enhances the look of their bike?? But I just don't like the looks of 'em.
I agree, it makes it look like you plan to crash or drop your bike.
If you DO drop the bike or crash often, they are a good idea, a better idea is getting a car or a trike.
There ARE cars that get as good or better mpg, don't fall over, and even have air conditioning.
Bikes with trunks, radios, heated grips, windshields, floorboards, glove boxes, sounds like a car to me....
The less stuff (and weight) on my bike, the better I like it.
I have the HD chrom bar on my bike and love it. It was on the bike when I got it and I have though about taking it off, but I like it too much. I do not have pegs on mine and never will.
I have the Chrome HD bar on my bike. I got mine because I'm a newbie, only been riding about 6 months. I added mine after i dropped my bike in my driveway the week after I got it. I was hesitant about putting them on at first because I thought they would look out of place but after a while I got used to them. The ones made for the Sportster are not real big so they dont't look too bad. They can save you some $$ if you have a low speed drop. I plan on getting highway pegs for them one day. I have to update my pics on here one day, I dont think I have any pics with the crash bars on the bike.
We put a crash bar on my wife's nightster. She has dropped it twice and it saved the bike and her leg resulting in only some very minor scratches to the bottom corner of the bar. We will likely take it off and sell it soon but it was very valuable when she started riding.
